Vitamin D Quiz

What Vitamin D Level is Natural?

In nature - almost like in the Stone Age - you can find vitamin D levels of  80/90/ 100ng /ml

in children in developing countries walking around in the tropical sun without any clothes to speak of.

If you then give them a shirt, trousers and a school building, the vitamin D level will drop  30/ 40ng /ml

and the more than a thousand known vitamin D deficiency diseases set in.

How do I recognize vitamin D deficiency?

  • At night: feeling cold, leg pains, restless sleep with sudden awakening.

  • During the day: limp, tired, powerless, lacking momentum

  • Midday and on exertion: dizziness and/or headache when standing up

  • Prolonged standing causes pain in: neck, lower back, groin, feet

  • Cramps and/or twitches in: leg, arm, hand, eyelid

Vitamin D immediate therapy

A one-off dose of 5 mg vitamin D ensures a rapid increase in the vitamin D level within a few days.

This therapy is available for children as rickets prophylaxis with 5 mg Vigantol ®

For adults there is DEKRISTOL 20,000 ® with the content: 10 capsules, each x 20,000 IU  = 200,000 IU = 5 mg vitamin D.

In France, drinking ampoules with 200,000 IU (= 5 mg) of vitamin D have been available in every pharmacy for a long time.

With this one-time dosage, the vitamin D level increases by 20 - 30 ng/ml in medium-weight individuals.

Daily or weekly intake at a lower dose is ideal for maintaining vitamin D levels. As a second- best alternative , adults may repeat this vitamin D regimen of 200,000 IU once a month.

Accidental double ingestion is not toxic. Without additional vitamin D intake, the vitamin D level drops again within 4-6 weeks to such an extent that a new deficiency occurs.

Convert your vitamin D laboratory results

Convert " nmol / l " to " mg / ml " directly here
